Housing
How DC can grow equitably
DC needs more housing. I have watched the city change dramatically since I was a kid and I have seen more and more people move into the city. The housing stock, at its current state, is not enough to support the growing population and while I believe that there should be more housing throughout the city, I think growth should not be concentrated in select portions of the city. If DC is to grow sustainably, development needs to happen throughout the city, not concentrated in certain neighborhoods.
Equitable growth is essential to combat the rate of displacement in the City. This can be done through zoning changes to allow for more density in single-family zones. I also believe that adequate affordable housing is imperative and that funds need to be allocated to maintain and improve the existing public housing stock that is currently unlivable.
