Safety for Everyone

My views on policing are rooted in a desire to abolish the prison industrial complex (PIC). Throughout the United States, police have been used as a tool to support the PIC by criminalizing activities that do not actually make people unsafe. This has resulted in police being responsible for responding to the unhoused population, those with mental disabilities, and keeping schools safe, all of which police are not adequately trained to do. I support calls to defund the police so that funds can be reallocated to support homeless services, hire social workers who are better prepared to handle interpersonal situations and can replace police officers in schools.
